That's all pretty good news, all-in-all. Good on-ya! I'm looking forward to reading a little more again in upcoming months about century rides amongst other things.

Good to read from you and knowing that you are well.

We still have the old analog TV with an indoor antenna but it was a pain during the TdF as they had only certain stages live and they didn't always happen to be the intersting mountain stages.

How's your own riding going?

Well, not really.
Not all messengers necessarily ride fixed-gear bikes.
It could be the other way around though. Because after hipsters saw what most messengers rode (fixed-gear bikes) they suddenly found this sort of bike(which has been around for a very long time) to be stylish, unique, hip. Afterwards this became the growing culture that is the fixie rider.

Ms. Chatterbox - you were the one that got cooked more; Hernando and I created shade with tents and consumed cold beer, so not as bad off as you ladies ;-)

Groover - I had to look back at your video then realized the Johnsondale part was on the upper Kern River. Same county as the race. The last road race was out of a tiny town called Woody, about 45 km or so SE of Johnsondale. The hillclimb was out of a town called Havilah, about 45 km due south, about 12-15 km south of Lake Isabella. The other two stages were even further south. The Woody Road Race had temps reportedly in the 43-45 degree C range. Rather toasty for racing!

Kern Country? We camped right next to the Kern River one night ... is that close to where the race was? Oh, fond memories! :-)

Sounds like a good race.

To learn some french for quebec, rent slapshot with quebec (not france) dubbing. You'll fit in with the locals *much* better.

Quebec has become a major-league cycling paradise. Of course, this does not apply in winter.

When you registered for the century, you thought it was 100 miles and a paltry 7,000-8,000 feet of climbing with no sustained climbs over about 3 miles. Then, when the route sheet came out, it was going to be close to 10K feet of climbing with the darn 8ish mile climb. You knew it was going to be significantly harder than expected. And, your training was limited by some pretty bad weather in the weeks leading up to the event. You should not beat yourself up. Your fitness and strength are both coming along nicely.
