It has become all to easy to commit, maybe over-commit, my time lately. The Wife, Work, house, races, training, track, BPAC, etc., leaves little time for anything else. I have fully committed all Tuesday nights from now through August … to just two (similar) activities. And both are just a couple miles apart just off US 101 in South San Jose.
This week it will be track night at the Hellyer Velodrome. Three or so hours of pain and socializing, courtesy of Larry Nolan, all in hopes that just a little tiny bit of the Nolan magic can rub off on little old me. This month it is all points races, next month scratch races, back to points in July, then scratch again in August. I will be making an appearance every other week through the summer, or at least that is what I have scheduled.
On the Tuesdays I am not at Hellyer I will be a couple miles further south doing the SJBC Tuesday twilight crit. Nice course, but getting a bit too much traffic these days. Of course, some folks do not like the course as much as I do, something to do with that nice little 90 ft or so climb on the east leg. Fun and games. And to make sure I get out to this, I have committed to working registration at them every other week from now until the end of the summer. Of course, the need to get so far south on a work night sort of means I will be working from home on Tuesdays; need to cut that 20 miles of commute down the peninsula from the travel task.
If you are in the area and want to have some good training, join me in the “Tuesday night highway 101 sufferfest”!

we’re so there. i love riding over the hill and meeting Sabine as she finishes her races. great summer activity.
and i’m with you on cutting down car-time. if i lived next to the track, i’d do more Tues Nolan races - but, it’s hard sitting in that car all that time to get there!
see you at the SJ circuits … but first, KERN!
(and yes, i have loads of http://www.kinesys.com/ for us to use as we skip around scantily clad for this women’s gathering)

All this talk of Hellyer makes me want to pursue the job opportunities at Stanford just a little more seriously…. Funny how the velodrome is calling me, and I’ve never even tried it! Just seems like it would be a blast. And I tried my own version of Beth’s overpass challenge…and I got a 173 on my first try! My former coach saw that number…and said, hell with this road race crap–get thee to a track!
But first, there is Kern…supporting role sounds more fun!
Have fun at Hellyer!

hernando - I will look for you at the SJ circuits after Kern! And from looking at your Friday night stuff, I need to work on a track upgrade so I can play and not just heckle
Doc Kim - you could always just do a track visit. The Hellyer crowd is nice and friendly.

Mid week racing is a great way to get that intensity that you have been wanting.

Chris - right on! It is almost an embarrassment of riches around here. Not counting the mid-day rides, there is within striking distance of where we live:
Mon night: track beginner sessions (good skills work)
Tues night: track racing (alternate scratch and points races)
twilight crit
Wed night: track racing
Thu night: Swanton TT’s once a month
Fri night: track racing on a good number of them
Plus a bunch of club rides. Phew!
Tonight I did a double up: ‘B’ group points race (handed my arse on a platter; but stayed clear of the crash), and then right into the ‘C’ group points race where I think I got third.
