Ali - sounds like a great trip! Our touring bikes can take wide tires so if the trails are not too technical we could handle it with those bikes. I have a fun fall recommendation...take the greyhound to eureka and bike back. BUT, I took a mountain bike and did a lot of the northern section on trails, I believe it's called the king's mountain range, just east of the lost coast. The trail system spits you out on Rte. 1 at Liggot and you take 1 all the way back. The trails are very non-technical (which is good as I'm a weenie on the trails). IT took us 4 days doing some pretty long miles each day, so you could take a few more to make it more mellow. you guys are too cool.
