Got spanked

Another day, another whooping. I got up this morning and headed for Hellyer, week two beginner track session as the goal. A bit smaller crowd than last week. A few of the same folks, and a few noobs. I felt alright through the warmups, and then we went into team pursuits. By the second lap my legs were screaming, and I had to keep sprinting to close gaps. I would try calling up the leg muscles to work harder, but I kept getting a busy signal. I get none of the credit but miraculously my team won, which meant we got to go again … right away. Uggh. The second time was better, the team working better, less surging, and this time I was able to hang, easily, and we won this second one handily. Then onto whistle jumps, Italian pursuits, Australian pursuit (where I was able to stay alive for a lap and a half before getting passed by Sabine, who was soon passed by Nick, the eventual ‘winner’). Need some more work, for sure, which may mean I need my own track bike ….

Update: With a little prodding I have launched a gallery site with photos from my first two Saturday track sessions. For Ali and the Mintie Mafia, the 2ueen VB, Angela, and others interested the gallery is at http://www.cycle-tours.com/gallery/ . Just click through to the Hellyer albums.

A-ha…I JUST realized that this is you…or that you are he, or something like that. Thanks for the fun photos from last weekend. We’ll see you at Timpany.

Amanda won after a few mint induced attacks and a great leadout from Molly. It was a photo finish with Jane Despas and Virginia from CRC.

So happy you are having a great time at the track. It is so much fun — wednesdays and thursdays are a blast! it is that great feeling on not knowing what hurts more, your legs or your lungs. then you get a break and get to do it again!

Ali – Great for Amanda and the Mintie Mafia! Sorry I missed you at Timpani. Ms. Chatterbox invited her team to our place, since we were close, so we missed the later races :-(

Beth – Good to see you again today, at Timpani. Loved the sponsor tag on your jersey :-) Meant to ask you, do you have your own track bike? Musing on the possiblities …

Chris – thanks for the list. A couple of bike folks are using to good effect here, the Bianchi Pista (not the Pista Concept, just Pista), the KHS Flite 100, the Surly, and Soma seem to have been left out. Will have to see if I can find the article and figure out what the criteria were

hey rick- yes, i do have my fixed gear. i ride a de bernardi. (an older one, late 90s.) a friend is letting me use his bike, because it was too small for him…so I kind of fell into it. They frames are supposedly very affordable and are quite good lookin’. (lugged steel.) the only bad thing i read about it is the paint job. but i only ride it on the track, so i’m not banging her around to get chipped. it has a track geometry, unlike some fixies that are mostly meant for road riding. lots of people seem to have bianchi pistas. there seem to be lots of good deals on fixies on craigslist.
